TPR Traffic Solutions, a division of Trench Plate Rental Co., offers a complete line of traffic control devices and services. We're a rapidly growing division with locations in Commerce, Riverside, and San Leandro, California, and a business plan that includes opening one new location per year for the next five years. Trench Plate Rental Co. is a multi-state construction rental corporation with over 35 years of excellent performance. We offer trench plates, steel trench boxes, aluminum shoring and many other products and services associated with excavation shoring. With corporate offices in Downey, California, we have locations in 11 states -- and we continue to grow.

The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the General Manager role, you should have a history of success in sales management and operations, and outstanding leadership and mentoring skills. Additionally, you will need:
  • Substantial experience in the construction or traffic industries.
  • Proven success in sales and sales management, and a "hunter" mentality.
  • A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • The skill to maximize financial growth through operations processes, spending frugality, and coaching and mentoring Sales Representatives.
  • Self-motivation and drive for success.
  • Seasoned personnel management and customer service skills.

In addition to these requirements, you must be willing to travel in your territory, with Sales Representatives and alone, approximately three days per week. You will sell to key accounts 10% to 20% of the time, spending 30% to 40% with hands-on Sales team development, and the remainder of the time managing Operations. The territory extends from Sacramento down to the East Bay and over to the Arizona border. Though it's a large territory, overnight travel will be rare.
 

The Role

Reporting to two regional Vice Presidents, you will ensure that the San Leandro branch is running efficiently and effectively and that personnel are working to their potential. The current staff includes a Traffic Control Supervisor, two Sales Representatives, a Customer Service Representative, Plan Drawer, and Traffic Technicians who do field repairs and are responsible for equipment maintenance. As General Manager, your mission will be to showcase your consultative outside sales savvy as you mentor your team and aggressively drive sales to help us meet and exceed our sales targets. Specifically, you will:
  • Create and execute the branch sales plan.
  • Assist in creating individual sales plans for each of the Sales Representatives you supervise.
  • Ensure pipeline building.
  • Work and travel to appointments with the Sales Representatives, coaching and mentoring them on sales and closing skills.
  • Work directly with large clients, building relationships and selling/up-selling.
  • Actively working to increase sales with the goal of doubling sales over the next 12 months.
  • Coordinate with the sales staff to insure that what was promised is delivered.
  • Approve customer quotes, bids, and special pricing through senior management.
In addition, you will manage the day-to-day operations and drive operational excellence while controlling expenses to maximize profitability. You will:
  • Comply with all company and government regulatory programs that pertain to our business.
  • Develop and manage the branch budget.
  • Work closely with the Operations Supervisor regarding the staff and day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained, repaired, and ready to rent, and that proper tracking and documentation is maintained. Documentation will include branch vehicle records such as service schedules, inspections and repairs.
  • Handle all initial safety investigations.
  • Purchase supplies, parts, and outsourced repairs and maintenance; sign and approve POs.
  • Work closely with HR and recruit, hire, and train staff; ensure staff development; team building; discipline and rewards.
  • May schedule work for drivers when not dispatched, as well as other employees.
  • Complete accurate rental product inventory counts, report counts and arrange for the return of damaged equipment and products.
  • Review logistics and workflow for the branch, coordinating with other Traffic Solutions branches to maintain and share inventory as customer needs warrant.
